6 Scholarship Contests for All Students

By Victoria Robertson on July 23, 2018

Scholarships are an elusive part of applying to college. Or are they?

We all know that money doesn’t grow on trees (figuratively speaking), but scholarships are much more abundant than students think, all it takes is a bit of research and some dedicated time to completing some essay or video contests.

Again, the right scholarship is out there, and there are plenty of options that are available to all students. Applying may not save you the entirety of the cost of your college education, but it will at least save you a few pretty pennies.

With that in mind, here are six scholarship contests for all students.

1. Platt Family Scholarship Prize Essay Contest

A scholarship prize awarded by Lincoln Forum, the Platt Family Scholarship Prize Essay Contest awards $1,500 for the first prize winner, $750 to the second prize winner and $500 to the third prize winner. These awards are offered annually and are non-renewable. The prize money is awarded based on academic excellence and can be used for any purpose the winner desires.

To enter, students have to write an essay between 1,500 and 5,000 words on the year’s topic, which can be found on the Lincoln Forum website. The deadline for this application is Tuesday, July 31, 2018, so get writing!

2. Money Metals Exchange Scholarship Program

Awarded by the Money Metals Exchange, this $2,000 scholarship for the first place winner must be completed by September 30, 2018. There is also a $1,000 prize for the second place winner and a “people’s choice” winner who will receive $500.

The online application form can be found on the Money Metals Exchange website and the applications will be reviewed by a panel of economists, professors and executive members of the Money Metals Exchange.

3. MigVapor Essay Contest

With an application deadline of November 1, 2018, this contest, awarded by Mig Cigs, consists of an original essay based on the assigned topic, which relates to health implications of smoking.

An award of $1,900 is awarded for the first place winner, $700 for the second place winner, $400 for the third place winner and all awards are one-time, non-renewable prizes. Essays are evaluated based on the inclusion of evidence-based arguments, personal experience, and attached media (images or videos) that are relevant and assist in making a clear, concise argument. Recipients are notified within 30 days of the application deadline as well, so you won’t have to wait too long to find out if you won!

4. Pretty Lightroom Presets Scholarship

This $500 scholarship contest awards $500 dollars and has an application deadline of December 15, 2018. Awarded by Pretty Lightroom Presets, this annual, non-renewable scholarship is awarded to two individuals yearly and judged by a team of judges at LightroomPresets.com.

Not only does the winner get the prize money, but the winning 800 to 1,000-word response will be published on Pretty Presets’ Blog and the winner will also be notified by email three weeks following the deadline. So again, there’s no waiting around here!

5. Express Medical Supply Scholarship Program

Another $500 contest with a deadline of December 30, 2018, the Express Medical Supply Inc. awarded scholarship is non-renewable with two awards provided annually, one per deadline.

This scholarship aims to reward students who express creativity in a small space, as they must create a meme image based on the specifications listed on the Express Medical Supplies website. That being said, additional consideration is given to students who create memes with original photos and/or novel thinking. Within a month of the deadline date, the winner is notified of the reward.

6. Brave New Schools Competition

Last, but certainly not least, the Brave New Schools Competition scholarship contest awards $4000 to 5, grand prize winners, $3,000 to 5 winners and $1,000 to 15 finalists. So yes, for those that aren’t great at math, that’s 25 awards annually. Awarded by Youth Speaks, XQ Super School Institute, this scholarship is due June 18 yearly and submissions are evaluated on creative interpretation of the topic, originality and innovative storytelling.

25 entries are selected as finalists and a combination of public popularity and celebrity judges determine the 10 winners. All details surrounding this scholarship contest can be found on the Brave New Schools website.

Again, scholarship contests are not as rare as students may initially think. In fact, they are rather common, and there are just as many that are available to all students as there are contests for students of a specific background or on a specific educational path.

Use these six scholarship contests for all students as a starting point in your scholarship search, but don’t be afraid to continue searching for more and really expand your application pool, because that’s how you’re going to save yourself more money than other students.
